These chocolate and banana puff pastry pinwheels are an easy treat to bake with kids and they use a lighter chocolate spread meaning less sugar, but all the taste. Lots of different ways to fill them, but banana and chocolate is our favourite.

Chocolate Pinwheels

If you are going down the sweet pinwheels route, then chocolate is always an excellent choice. We lightened these us by using our Homemade Healthier Nutella. It is less sugar, but still all of the flavour!

You could use any chocolate spread you like though, and there are some really great lower sugar ones on the market at the moment.

If you aren’t a fan of banana, then some chopped up fresh berries like strawberries and raspberries work well, or even some cherries. Chocolate and cherry go so well together.

What Other Flavour Pinwheels Can You Make?

The great thing about pinwheels is that the flavour options are almost endless. If you want sweet, but don’t want chocolate, then you can swap the chocolate spread for jam instead.

If you prefer savoury pinwheels, then we love making a pizza version. Spread some marinara on the pastry and add some vegetables and cheese.

Chocolate and Banana Pinwheels

These chocolate and banana pinwheels are easy to bake with kids. They use a lighter chocolate spread, so less sugar, but all the taste.

Ingredients

  1. 1 Packet of ready rolled puff pastry

  2. 6 tbsp Jim Jams Chocolate Spread

  3. 2 Small bananas mashed

  4. 1 Egg beaten

Instructions

Roll the pastry out and spread the chocolate spread over it.

Add the banana and spread on top.

Gently roll up the pastry until you have a log. Some of the banana might come out, but that's okay.

Slice the log in to 12 pieces and put on a lined baking sheet. Brush a little egg on top of each and put in a preheated over at 190C for 20 minutes until browned.

Leave to cool before serving.
