4 ways your unwittingly making yourself unhappy

There is so much to be thankful for here and ample reasons as to why we should be happy, but many still struggle with everyday happiness.

With social media today we have the ability to look into others lives, or at least their highlight reel and begin to feel unhappy about our own life.

It’s a mindset shift that I’ve since mastered {or at least most of the time}.

You have to learn how to stay in your own lane. Focus on your own life and the blessings in it.

Never mind the rest.

My focus for 2019 is LESS. Less is MORE.

My whole mindset shift took place a few years ago {after battling unhappiness, anxiety and depression for a decade} when I took a trip to Costa Rica where the happiest people on earth live or so statistics say.

I learned more in the 12 days there about happiness, self acceptance and contentment, enough to carry me a lifetime.

There they were, with much less than we have here in North America but beyond happy and full of gratitude.

They had their family or the ones they loved, they had shelter and food, a job to go to and their health.

What else could they want or need?

I brought the same principals that they lived by back to North America with me and started living with gratitude.

It changed everything.

Comparison is the thief of joy

You are not someone else and they are not you and you need to remember that.

You have valuable qualities that may be different than others but that makes you, you.

Keep in your own lane.

Whoever you are comparing yourself too, they have struggles and skeletons in their closet too, even if they don’t talk about it.

Run your own race. Stick to your own values in life.

Keeping up with the Jones

Everyone wants the luxurious lifestyle. Sports cars, mansions and tropical vacations.

Sure your neighbour drives the newest vehicle and it looks good from the outside looking in but,

Maybe you decided to top up your RRSP instead of purchasing a brand spanking new vehicle because your 8 year old car still runs perfect.

Sure your friend has the best job, a big house and the picture perfect life but,

Maybe shes stuck in bed, struggling with health issues and would trade all of that if she could just get her health back.

Perspective.

Attitude of gratitude

There’s more than enough to be thankful and grateful for. Enough to make you shed rays of happiness.

Look around you.

The roof over your head, the sound of the furnace running allowing you a warm home.

Electricity allowing you to read this article.

The clothing you’re wearing and the dinner that just filled your belly.

So much happiness.

We are so fortunate.

When you think that some places around the world aren’t as fortunate,

You kind of start to forget about the shiny new car or all the other materialistic things that you think will make you happy.

Being content with less and realizing your blessings will bring you happiness.

You are not a victim

Stepping out of the victim mindset and taking charge.

It’s easy to get caught up with feeling like the victim when life keeps knocking you down.

It’s everyone else’s fault but your own, right?

But, are you the victim and settling as the victim or are you viewing the set backs as STEPPING stones to something better.

Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens FOR you and when you take charge of your attitude, shift your mindset, own up to your mistakes and move forward.

That’s where everything changes, for the better.

Happiness is not measured by how much you have materialistically.

Happiness can not be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed.

Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.
